These potential leaders spent their afternoon learning about FFA and what makes it so amazing! If you'd like to watch a recap of the day visit: https://youtu.be/FVYSvBTo5og Texas FFA President, Carlye Winfrey, and 1st Vice President, Calvin Morgan, came to our LDE Kick Off meeting! We talked about the Pros of different LDEs, had an official dress fashion: what not to wear, presented jackets to students who went to state last year and listened to the state officers as they taught us to grow together, direct our mindset, and know ourselves! Cade Perkins was named the Area VIII Greenhand Star in Placement! Sierra Loyd, Betnie Mitchell, and Courtney Hampton were a part of the 2% of FFA members who received their Lonestar degrees and we received the Golden Horizon award, as well as the National Chapter Award. We spent a day in the sun at Burger's Lake, had some friendly competition at Mansfield Paintball park and admired the history if the Fort Worth Stockyards. The first Heart of Texas District LDEs were a success for China Spring FFA. Three teams advanced to area! Public Relations placed 1st, Greenhand Skills placed second, and our Job Interview contestant placed second! At our annual fall festival meeting State President, Cory Sinkule, and State Vice President, Preston Cummings, took part in our many festivities, including Fear Factor! Our officers dressed up as their position, while Cory and Preston dressed up as members from Duck Dynasty. Betnie Mitchell, Maggie Chaffin, Courtney Hampton, and Taylor Clark took part in Waco Midway FFA's Blue Heart Project. They joined FFA members from other schools and worked together to create door stops out of firehoses. The end product was donated to various schools in the area to help keep students safe from intruders. Twelve lucky students traveled to Ft. Worth for the 90th Texas FFA Convention. While we had so much fun at Six Flags, Paintball and the Frisco Roughriders game, we also enjoyed celebrating the achievements of our chapter and members! Maggie Chaffin, Mallory Day, Brison Tullos, Taylor Clark and William Howe received their Lonestar degree and chains, Kayla and Kyla Seale received $20,000 scholarships, and we received the Golden Horizon Award. Four LDE teams advanced to area contest at Waco District LDEs! Ag. Issuel, Sr. Skills, Ag. Advocacy, and Chapter Ag. Quiz placed in top three of their contests and went on to compete at area for their spot at state. China Spring FFA made an appearance at the 90th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October. We attended several leadership workshops and listened to keynote speaker Leila Ali. We also visited a local pumpkin patch, rode segways and ate at Fogo de Ch ã o! China Spring FFA Alumni, Ashley Cline, received her American degree! Texas FFA State Officers Taylin Antonick, Cody McQueen, and Clay Cole stopped by for a visit during our October chapter meeting. They gave a wonderful presentation over stepping out of your comfort zone and then enjoyed some fall festivities, such as pumpkin decorating, with our chapter members! 17 students traveled to Corpus Christi for the 89th Texas FFA Convention. Kayla Seale, Kyla Seale, and Colton Eskew competed in the agriscience fair, Courtney Hampton, Sierra Loyd, Betnie Mitchell, and Jonathan Crawford competed in the first Texas FFA Quiz Bowl competition and Meagan Davis, Kayla Seale and Kyla Seale received their Lonestar degree. While we weren't in a session we played in the sand, ate at Big Lou's Pizza, and toured the historic Lexington. At the Waco District Convention we took home 9 banners! Dylan Paris and Destiny Sanderson placed 2nd in the talent competition earning their ticket to area contest! In July, 14 FFA members attended the Texas FFA State convention in Dallas. What a trip! Brayan Sanchez competed in Spanish Creed Speaking, our chapter was recognized for the Golden Horizon award, Anneliese Olbrich, Megan Krupa and Dakota Needler received their Lone Star degree and gold chains and Megan Day accepted an $18,000 college scholarship! Meanwhile, we enjoyed festivities at Six Flags Over Texas, Medieval Times, the Dallas Zoo, Escape This: Dallas (we all escaped!) and The Main Event. The Waco District convention is in the books! Congratulations to Mallory Day and Brison Tullos who advanced to area with with Star Greenhand applications. Mallory advanced to state! Beth Martens, Claire Martens, Kayla Seale, Kyla Seale, Jennifer Stanley and Megan Day advanced to area with their proficiencies. Megan Day, Jennifer Stanley and Kyla Seale advanced to state! Kyla Seale was elected district sentinel. Dakota Needler and Claire Martens competed in public speaking. Kyla Seale, Megan Day, Jennifer Stanley and Taitelyn Morris advanced to area in senior prepared public speaking. Beth Martens advanced in Soil Stewardship. Avery Slocum advanced in junior prepared public speaking and Kayla Seale advanced to area in extemporaneous speaking. Great job! 2015 proved to be another successful year for LDEs. We won the sweepstakes award for the first time! Radio, Public Relations and Ag Issues advanced to area and Ag Issues advanced to state. Job well done! The Texas FFA State Convention was held July 13-17, 2015 in Corpus Christi. Joseph Reynoso placed 8th in the Extemporaneous Public speaking state competition- our first member ever to advance to the finals round! We earned a Golden Horizon award and four members earned their Lone Star degrees. What a week! Not to mention the trip to the beach, the fun time at Glow Golf and the awesome food at the original Landry's Seafood and Fogo de Chao. Meet the 2015-2016 chapter officers here! The 2015 Waco District Convention is in the books! Second place CDE Sweepstakes! 2014 FFA LDE teams represent China Spring well! We placed 4th in district sweepstakes! Congratulations to senior creed speaking and job interview for advancing to area. Good luck to public relations and ag issues at state contest! The Texas FFA State Convention was held July 14-18, 2014 in Fort Worth. Our chapter was recognized as a top 20 chapter in the state, we had 5 runners and 2 medalists in the Blue & Gold 5K, Megan Day placed 5th in her public speaking state competition, we earned a Golden Horizon award, 3 members earned their Lone Star degrees and 2 Honorary Lone Star degrees were bestowed. What a week! Not to mention the community service project at Mission Arlington, the fun time at Hurricane Harbor and Altitude Trampoline Park, and the awesome food at Saltgrass Steakhouse and Texas de Brazil. What a year! We placed 3rd in 2014 district CDE sweepstakes! Four CDE teams competed at state and 1 public speaker advanced to state contest this summer!
